Friday Web Roundup: Preparing For Success, Digital Sharecropping, Being Mark Zuckerberg, and the Best Customer Service Ever!
It’s Friday, and here in the Northeast we are preparing for what may be our worst storm ever – and this is only a couple of days after we had an earthquake!
Times are stressful, so why not kick back, relax, and enjoy a little good old fashioned web surfing?
Here are a few links you might enjoy – I know I did!
What If You Succeed?
Something of a cautionary tale from Ittybiz.com. Many of us want success and we want to achieve something. However, it’s all too common to not actually be ready to succeed…
This post is a fun story with a good point: Be sure you are ready to get what you wish for!
Digital Sharecropping
Interesting article from Copyblogger.com about the dangers of putting all of your online business elements in the hands of a third-party provider (like Facebook).
Even if you have nothing to do with online businesses, consider the underlying principle: Don’t put all your eggs in one basket – especially if someone else owns that basket!
Mark Zuckerberg isn’t Mark Zuckerberg
From Seth Godin’s blog, this is a short post about how people believe that some people succeed just because they are gifted exceptions. A great read for anyone making excuses for why they are not succeeding.
The last line’s a keeper: “Mostly, the best way to be the next Mark Zuckerberg is to make difficult choices.”
Morton’s Has the Best Customer Service Ever!
My buddy Matt sent me this story about how Peter Shankman, creator of “Help a Reporter Out” jokingly tweeted that he wanted Morton’s to meet him at the airport with a steak – and they did it!
I don’t actually believe Morton’s would do this for any and every customer that tweeted that they wanted a steak, but it’s a cool story that shows three things:
- Twitter can work
- Cool customer service stories spread
- It never hurts to ask
Paid Public Speaker Coaching Program
Here’s a reminder about the Paid Public Speaker Coaching Program. This is a fantastic group coaching program that I, along with two partners, am running. If you want to start a speaking business but are not sure how or need help, advice, and encouragement, then this is the program for you!
Something Funny, Something Nerdy
Hmm, normally on these roundups I like to post a link to something funny, or something nerdy, or ideally both. This week, I got nothing. Don’t know if that’s because I didn’t come across anything good, or if I just forgot to make a note of it. Oh well.
To help me out in future weeks, if you come across truly funny or good and nerdy, send it over!
For now, I leave you with a relatively old “movie trailer mashup” that still makes me laugh:
Ghostbusters Re-Cut as an Inception-style Movie:
